I do not paint a portrait to look like the subject, rather does the person grow to look like his portrait.
During a recent fashion event in town, Fashion in Helsinki, I saw a dress that caught my eye. Ever since my parents passed away, I've been avoiding all-black outfits, as I wore so many black outfits just after their passing. If you've missed them, you can read my earlier blog posts about grief here. So no surprise - the dress that fascinated me was for sure the most colorful dress that I've seen this season: Finnish Marita Huurinainen's Waves Dali Dress! Let me introduce it to you in this blog post, in the setting of Helsinki's Rhododendron Park.
Helsingin suurimman muotitapahtuman, Fashion in Helsingin, aikana huomasin värikkään mekon, joka jäi mieleeni.
The Finnish designer behind the dress is Marita Huurinainen. Her philosophy is that one should not create anything wasteful into this world. The designs have to be lasting in both their style and material, so that they may remain in use for several years, a lifetime and more in the best case. The concept behind the work is very important. Whilst there is only a very fine line between art and design, an important feature of a product is true to Finnish design - functionality. The mood of the Marita Huurinainen collections is strongly influenced by the spirit of Finland. The design of the spring/summer collection is light & colorful like summertime in Finland. The Marita Huurinainen brand was launched in 2013 and now the collections are sold both in Finland and internationally.
I was delighted when I heard that she wanted to collaborate with me on the blog. The Waves Dali dress has striking colors (the Dali print is a limited edition and back thanks to the demand this summer), but it also has an elegant look and cocoon silhouette. It's made of smooth viscose, and it has 3/4 sleeves, a v-neck, and two side seam pockets! So practical and stunning!
What do you think of fashion as an art form? What do you think makes a summer dress special?
Mitä mieltä olet muotitaiteesta? Mikä mielestäsi tekee kesämekosta erityisen?

I love the designers philosophy! That is a wonderful perspective to have, especially when it comes to design and fashion. That is a fabulous outfit. I love the bold colours and print!
