The Nordics at the Oscars 2017

Certain things leave you in your life and certain things stay with you. And that's why we're all interested in movies- those ones that make you feel, you still think about. Because it gave you such an emotional response, it's actually part of your emotional make-up, in a way.

Every year I watch the Oscars (the rerun due to the time difference), mainly because of my enormous love for movies, but also because of the red carpet. However, above all, it truly is the biggest international celebration of cinema! After all, the Oscars was televised in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide! This year, I was happy to see so many Nordic inputs despite the fact that we're so few up here in the great North and the Oscars take place so far from here - in Hollywood! I'm so proud! In this blog post I'll present some Nordic flavors that I noticed (I'm sure there are more) at the Oscars 2017.

Itse kuulun niihin, jotka katsovat Oscar -gaalaa (yleensä aikaeron takia uusintaa). Suurin syy gaalan katseluun on suuri rakkauteni elokuvia kohtaan. Punainen matto pukuineen on myös hyvin kiinnostava. Gaalassa kuitenkin hienointa on se, että se on suurin kansainvälinen elokuvajuhla! Tänä vuonna gaalaa näytettiin yli 225:ssä maassa! Seuraan myös aina miten pienet Pohjoismaat pärjäävät tässä hulppeassa gaalassa. Vaikka meitä on niin vähän, ja gaalaa pidetään toisella puolella maailmaa, niin pohjoismaalaisia esiintyy siinä aina! Onpa hienoa! Tässä blogikirjoituksessa esittelen tämän vuoden satoa Pohjolasta (olen varma että minulta jäi jotain huomioimatta).

Alicia Vikander

Swedish actress Alicia Vikander was one of this year's award presenters at the Oscars (last year she won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in The Danish Girl) - did you know that partly thanks to her, Alicia is one of the 10 most popular names for girls in Sweden? She is said to be the biggest Swedish actress since Ingrid Bergman. Of course, according to Finnish media, she has Finnish roots (one of her grandmothers was Finnish). She also has a Finnish manager (Laura Munsterhjelm).

Ruotsalainen näyttelijä Alicia Vikander jakoi tänä vuonna yhden Oscar -palkinnon (hän voitti viime vuonna itse pystin parhaasta naissivuosasta elokuvassa Tanskalainen tyttö) - tiesitkö, että osittain kiitos Vikanderin, niin Alicia -nimi kuuluu Ruotsin top 10 -tyttönimiin? Hänestä puhutaan Ruotsin suurimpana elokuvatähtenä sitten Ingrid Bergmanin. Tietysti, kotimainen media on kertonut hänen suomalaisista sukujuuristaan (hänen toinen isoäiti oli suomalainen). Hänellä on myös suomalaismanageri (Laura Munsterhjelm).

Danish-American Viggo Mortensen, Captain Fantastic / Tanskalais-amerikkalainen Viggo Mortensen, Captain Fantastic

Despite the fact that he was born in the States, he apparently, thanks to the fact that he was raised partly in Denmark, speaks Danish, but also understands Norwegian & Swedish.

Vaikka Mortensen on syntynyt USA:ssa, niin hän kuulemma, kiitos kasvuiän Tanskassa, osaa tanskaa ja ymmärtää ruotsia ja norjaa.
