7 + 2 Habitare favorites

Helsinki, 17 degrees

Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.

This weekend I visited Finland’s biggest furniture, interior, home decor and design fair - Habitare - that showcases interior design solutions for homes and public spaces from furniture and materials to unique design items. The fair presents the best expertise and products of Finnish interior decoration, furniture, and design. Here follow my favorites from this year's fair.

Finnish labels / Kotimaiset merkit

Teemu Järvi Illustrations

Teemu Järvi is a Finnish illustrator, who specializes in capturing wilderness and wildlife scenes in his works. His stand was chosen as one of the best stands at Habitare 2015.

Teemu Järvi on suomalainen kuvittaja, joka on erikoistunut luontografikkaan. Sisustustoimittajat ry valitsi Teemu Järven osaston yhdeksi tämän vuoden parhaimmaksi messuosastoksi. Perustelut: Osasto esittelee Teemu Järven taidegrafikkaa ja tuotteita tekijänsä näköisesti. Luonnonläheinen ja tyylikkäästi minimalistinen osasto on keskittynyt olennaiseen aivan kuten Järven työtkin.

VAJA Finland

You might remember VAJA Finland from this earlier blog post from last year. Of course, I had to stop by and say hello to the hearty owners Henna Lamberg and Fred Owren and hear what their year has been like so far. I was happily surprised by all their new goodies! Besides their stunning china and textiles, they now at Habitare presented their new jug and Christmastime ornaments - aren't they beautiful?

Samuji

Samuji is one of my Finnish favorites when it comes to a lot of things, for instance, clothing and textiles - after this year's Habitare also when it comes to cutting boards and scented soaps. Stunning!

Kaunista!

Lifesaver

You might remember Lifesaver from this earlier blog post from about one month ago. Of course, I had to pop in at the stand and say hello to the lovely people behind the label. I could really sense that it's a family-owned company as I was met by the lovely mother-daughter duo Susanna Blomqvist (CEO) and her daughter Daniela. I was thrilled to go home well-prepared for the upcoming darkening nights with my very own Leppä (Finnish for alder tree) reflector! The reflector is designed by the same designers, Finnish Saana and Olli, as the Villi Pohjola collection I introduced in my earlier blog post about the label.

Marimekko

Marimekko never lets you down. This year, the combination of clothing, textiles, dishes and home decor plants was breathtaking!

Magisso

This year's Habitare introduced me to some new friends. Magisso was one of them. This Finnish label is all about functionality and solving problems. I took a fancy to the COOL-ID Tumbler that stood out from the crowd – you can personalize it with a touch of chalk and creativity.

Habitare tutustutti minut myös uusiin nimiin, esimerkiksi Magissoon. Kotimainen yritys keskittyy funktionaliseen muotoiluun. Tykästyin heti COOL-ID Tumbleriin, jota voi personalisoida liiduilla.

Piironki

Piironki pulled me in with its jewelry boxes, copper trays, and Helsinki tote bags.

Piironki ihastutti lasirasinoineen, korulippaineen, kuparitarjoittimineen ja Helsinki-kasseineen.

International labels

+1 Destiny

Habitare would have been a disappointment if I wouldn't have found at least one dragonfly there. This year I found it at Destiny's stand. Destiny sells Nordic and American labels.

+ 1 Vitra

On this week's Monday, I noticed an interesting shop next to Helsinki's Diana Park and now at Habitare I saw it again - Swizz Vitra. This time I was impressed by the colorful wooden home decor dolls from 1952 and rotary trays from 2014.

Tämän viikon maanantaina huomasin Dianapuiston laidalla mielenkiintoisen myymälän, ja nyt Habitaressa törmäsin siihen taas - sveitsiläiseen Vitraan. Tällä kertaa pienet puiset sisustusnuket vuodelta 1952 ja tarjottimet vuodelta 2014 tekivät vaikutuksen.

Did you visit Habitare? Do you share my appreciation for the labels mentioned in this blog post?

Kävitkö itse Habitaressa? Mihin tuotteisiin sinä ihastuit?

What's your opinion?

  1. I loved this fair, Habitare! I love things for the house and Christmas things! Marimekko is really great, but many other brands were too, and I also loved Plironko!
