The area was encompassed in a bubble of warm, fragrant steam from the funnel cake deep fryers. It smelled like sweet vanilla cake batter you licked off a spoon.
Mead, funnel cake, balloons, paper streamers, sparkling wine - that's some of the ingredients of glorious Finnish first of May, Vappu/Valborg (in Swedish) as we call it! For me, this celebration is the true kick-start to the summer season in Helsinki. It's one of my favorite festivities in town, as it's our local spring carnival that many countries in Europe celebrate already in February. May Day always reminds me of my parents, as they both love the celebration. I now feel honored to keep my dad's graduation cap at my home. It will for the rest of my life remind me of the love my father had for springtime Helsinki! May Day is a genuinely joyous party, and so I celebrated it in pink with my dear friends. Of course I wore my white graduation cap, as tradition says. If you've missed them, please read my previous blog posts on Helsinki's May Day celebrations here and here.

As I've mentioned several times, I'm mad about stripes. This spring I've also been widely obsessed with jeans shorts and skirts that have suspenders, so you can imagine how happy I was when I found this jeans skirt! This is definitely one of my favorite pieces this spring!
How do you feel about jeans skirts or shorts with suspenders? How did you celebrate May Day?
Mitä mieltä olet farkkusortsi- ja/tai farkkuhamehaalareista? Miten itse vietit vapun?
I love stripes too, great outfit! I don't wear suspenders very often! x

I got a Diesel denim dungaree skirt (or jeans skirt with suspenders) from a thrift shop for 1 euro and was obviously very happy ;) I want to wear it while being in Crete so after the trip I will probably share some photos of it here. it's exciting anyway because I can't remember when was the last time I wore such thing. in my childhood I think. oh and that skirt with stripes looks lovely!
