Nordic nesting before welcoming baby: 2 long-term must-haves for families

From the beginning of this pregnancy, I have tried to keep in mind to only make longlasting purchase decisions that ideally also make our 4-year-old feel included. One could say that I've been much more careful when thinking about what to get for our home. I've tried to make a lot of research before every decision, and I have reflected upon our past experiences with our daughter as a baby. It is, however, in my opinion, impossible to bring home a baby without making any purchases. Therefore I thought that I would share two Nordic must-have family purchases that we've done in this blog post. You can find my earlier family-related blog posts here.

Raskauteni alusta asti olen tällä kertaa yrittänyt tietoisesti miettiä vain pitkäaikaisia hankintoja. Parhaimmat hankinnat tulevaa vauvaa varten osallistaa myös meidän 4-vuotiasta. Olen tehnyt paljon taustatyötä koskien kaikkia hankintoja, ja muistellut meidän aikaisempia kokemuksia tyttäremme kanssa. On kuitenkin mielestäni mahdoton ajatus tuoda vauva kotiin ilman, että olisimme joitakin hankintoja tehneet. The floor cushion (pouf) / Lattiatyyny (rahi)

For a long time already, poufs have been very popular in Nordic homes. Everyone knows that they are a versatile piece of furniture that can tie your room together effortlessly. Poufs are unique in that they are solid, yet soft, and therefore they can be used in a variety of different ways. Poufs can function as a chair, footrest, an additional tabletop, and more depending on where they are located. Nevertheless, we have never had a pouf. Until now. When thinking about what purchases to make in order to welcome our baby on the way, the playmat was causing me a lot of headaches. I think it's one of those items that we had with our girl, but only for a limited amount of time. For some reason, I couldn't decide on one to get this time around. When I heard about Swedish Ikea's Dihult floor cushion, I immediately liked it better. Here is why: our daughter already loves it, and actually feels that it's her nest. She loves to relax, play and watch TV on it. However, she knows that we got it also for the baby. The baby will be able to both take naps and play on the cushion. One can easily add toys and arches to the cushion. Once the baby grows, it can function as stand-up support for the child, and it's safe because of the height: it's on a level between the sofa and floor so a fall from here is not long. Let's see how long it stays in the family for, but I assume well have it for years / as we adults like quite much as well!

Jo jonkin aikaa rahit ovat olleet trendikkäitä suomalaisissa kodeissa. Kaikki tietävät miten monikäyttöisestä huonekalusta on kysymys: rahi voi toimia istuinalustana, jalkatukena. pöytänä ja se viimeistelee yleensä esimerkiksi olohuoneen sisustuksen koska sillä on yhdistävä vaikutus. Tähän mennessä meidän kodista ei kuitenkaan sellaista ole löytynyt. Kun mietin vauvahankintoja, epäilin eniten leikkimattoa. Muistan maton hyvin lyhytkestoisena hankintana, ja jokin sisälläni vastusti kovasti uuden maton hankintaa - myimme aikoinaan tyttäremme maton eteenpäin. Näinpä ihastuin heti Ikean Dihult -rahiin kuultuani siitä. Se toimii jo tässä vaiheessa kodissamme: tyttäremme rakastaa sitä ja viihtyy sen päällä leikkien, nukkuen ja TV:tä katsoen. Kun vauva tuodaan kotiin, hän voi rahin päällä ottaa nokoset tai myös leikkiä - rahiin voi helposti yhdistää erilaisia leikkikaaria ja leluja, ja se on turvallisen korkuinen (sohvan ja laittian välimaastoa). Myöhemmin vauva voi harjoitella seisomista kiitos rahin. Katsotaan miten kauan lattiatyyny säilyy perheessämme, mutta uskoisin, että se on mukana menossa vuosia - se on nimittäin myös suosittu aikuisten kesken!

The sleeping snake / Unikäärme

Swedish JOX's expressive snake in grey promises lots of fun. Made entirely from cotton, he's CE marked, stuffed with plush and perfect as a bed bumper, for cuddling or playing zoos. The snake can function as the frame for a baby nest, as it can easily be covered with a muslin square. However, the snake can grow with the baby and be used as a stuffed toy later on - again, long-term! Needless to say, our daughter also loves this piece and has shown lots of affection towards it while waiting for the baby to arrive. Love it! We found the snake on Lekmer.

Tämä ihanan pehmeä puuvillainen käärme Jox -merkiltä auttaa vauvaasi nukkumaan hyvin koska se voi toimia unipesän seinustana, kun sen yhdistää sideharsoliinaan. Käärme on harmaa, pilkullinen ja sillä on suljetut kiltit silmät. Se on 160 cm pitkä, joten lapsesi voi turvallisesti kierittää ja halailla pehmoleluaan. Unipesää on helppoa suurentaa käärmeen avulla, ja näin pesä kasvaa vauvan mukana. Tyttäremme rakastaa myös tätä hankintaa, hän tykkää leikkiä käärmenhoitajaa sillä!
