Eurovision Song Contest 2017

Helsinki, 10 degrees

Celebrate diversity.

I heard somebody say this spring that the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) is like any political election: some care passionately about it, other couldn't care less. In my childhood family, it was always an annual tradition to watch the ESC together, I was raised that way. So for me it's a huge & happy event that I look forward to every spring! Back in 2007, when we hosted the major event (200 million viewers worldwide) here in Helsinki, I even worked as a volunteer to get a close look at what happens behind the scenes during the event, and let me tell you - what a show! You might remember me talking about the ESC earlier on the blog. If not, you'll find my earlier blog posts about the event e.g. here and here.

Here are my favorite acts from this year's contest: / Tässä suosikkini tänä vuonna:

The best Nordic acts - Pohjoismaiset suosikit

(I also liked Finland's & Iceland's songs, but as they didn't make it to the final, I won't mention them in this blog post / Pidin myös Suomen ja Islannin lauluista, mutta koska eivät päässeet finaaliin asti, niin en mainitse niitä erikseen tässä blogikirjoituksessa)

Sweden - Ruotsi

Other favorites - Muut suosikit

Italy - Italia

Hungary - Unkari

Bulgaria

Australia

Israel

I also liked Belgium's song (Blanche: City Lights) when I heard it before the live shows, but the live performance in the first semi-final made me leave it out from this listing as I thought that performance was so poor.

Which act/song is your favorite before the final? Do you listen to the songs even after the contest?

Mikä on sinun ennakkosuosikkikappaleesi? Kuunteletko euroviisubiisejä myös laulukilpailun jälkeen?

What's your opinion?

  1. I and the husband tried to watch the final but fell asleep anyway. what can we do when they show it during our sleep time, hehe. but we had two favourite songs - Hungary's Origo and Romania's Yodel it! other songs left me as cold as possible, those two I'm even listening to right now. I like the fact they're not the most typical pop songs (happy ones or dramatic ones) I see every year during Eurovision.

    1. Haha, I watched it until they started to give out the points. The rest I watched the next day, as it was possible to do so in Finland. I guessed that Portugal would win, so it wasn't any big surprise for me. I'm happy to hear that you liked Hungary's song as well :) I wonder what you thought about Finland's song this year...
