How to use Pantone's color of the year 2017: Greenery

Helsinki, -2 degrees

Life is like a cactus; full of pricks, but also very beautiful.

After a week that included two really chilly days with -20 and -17 degrees, this is the perfect time to sit down and make plans for spring. You might find this strange, to plan for spring in the middle of winter, but I guess that is our Finnish spirit kicking in - to plan for warmer days when it's cold outside. Something that got my spring planning started, was Pantone's Color of the Year 2017 - Greenery! Probably because it's a refreshing and revitalizing shade, and symbolic of new beginnings! As during previous years, I thought it would be fun now in the beginning of the year to dive into the color of the year and see what kind of Nordic style & interior looks I could find and put together inspiration collages out of them. You might think what you want of Pantone's color predictions, but this year Greenery is sure to influence everything from fashion trends and beauty products to interior design.

Kovan pakkasviikon jälkeen tuntuu jotenkin luontevalta aloittaa kevään suunnittelu. Kuulit oikein! Kuulostaa ehkä oudolta, suunnitella kevättä pakkassäässä, mutta näin minulla on aina ollut tapana tehdä. Pantonen vuosittain valitseman Vuoden värin inspiroimana, rupesin kokoamaan tyyli- ja sisustuskollaaseja kevättä varten! Tänä vuonna vuoden väri on vehreä vihreä, joka raikkaudellaan ja virkistävyydellään symbolisoi uutta alkua! Vaikka trendivärit eivät olisikaan sinulle tärkeä juttu, niin tosiasia on, että Pantonen trendiväri tulee tänä vuonna vaikuttamaan moneen asiaan - muotiin, kauneuteen ja sisustukseen.

According to Pantone, Greenery is a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew. It's illustrative of flourishing foliage and the lushness of the great outdoors. The fortifying attributes of Greenery is to take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate in a natural surrounding. I think this all is excellent, and it suits really well Helsinki, the capital of Finland that has around 65% its total land area is covered in forest. Helsinki on the other hand has one third of its lands covered with parks and other green areas! I hope it will affect also local urban planning, architecture, lifestyle and design choices. I was happy to notice that great Nordic fashion brands like Finnish Marimekko & Swedish Cos, to mention a few, had already taken notice of Greenery. The individual images were found on Pinterest, I compiled the collages.

Concerning interior & home decor, big Nordic brands like Swedish H&M Home, Finnish Iittala, Danish Bloomingville, and Finnish Arabia have also noticed the color of the year. Botanicals are now on display! Cactuses and botanicals are now the thing! It's so easy to add a little green to one's home, and what a difference it makes, don't you think? The individual images were found on Pinterest, I compiled the collages.

I was also happily surprised by how many green outfits and/pieces I had already showcased on the blog over the past 9 years! Most of them still lay in my closet, so this year I'll for sure bring them back to use!

Yllätyin kun huomasin miten monta vihreäsävyistä asua tai vaatekappaletta olenkin jo ehtinyt esitellä blogissa viimeisten yhdeksän vuoden aikana! Suurin osa näistä on vielä vaatekaapissani, joten tänä vuonna ne pitää ottaa uudelleen käyttöön!

How do you feel about the color of the year? Yay or nay?

Mitä ajatuksia vuoden värisävy herättää sinussa? Onko se hyvä vai huono?

What's your opinion?

  1. I simply looove green and I also have many green outfits and have been using green for years - at home as well, sofas, cushions, table cloths, lamp shades and frames! I am so happy about Pantone's choice! Your outfit looks great! I hope the weather gets a bit warmer soon!

  2. yay! green used to be my favourite colour for some time during university. and I'm wearing an emerald green cardigan right now. but when it comes to interior design then flowers bring green into every room in our house. you sure have written quite a lot about green in your older posts! I love the outfit with the tropical jacket and black sequin skirt!

    1. Really? That's so nice, I would love to see some of your green items/pieces! Yeah, the tropical blazer is one of my favorites, but I wouldn't combine it anymore with that kind of a skirt - funny how one's sense of style changes over the years!
