Streat Helsinki 2016

Helsinki, 7 degrees

Your body is not a temple, it's an amusement park. Enjoy the ride.

Almost two weeks ago, I had the pleasure to experience my third street food festival in early spring Helsinki! You might remember Helsinki's revolutionary street food festival Streat Helsinki from this and this earlier blog posts? I say revolutionary mainly because of its timing in March since most people consider it still a winter month in our Northern capital.

This time, due to my preganancy, I didn't participate in all of the festival's happenings, but I did join the actual street food festival on Saturday March 19 in Helsinki's historical center together with our American social influencer guest, Liz Carlson from the blog Young Adventuress, of the #HelsinkiSecret Residence. This year there were 30 vendors from Finland and abroad (Sweden & Estonia) at the festival. You can see a list of all the vendors here. In this blog post, I want to present the three vendors whose treats I tried during the festival. It's funny to look at these photos now, as I was wearing my thickest winter jacket at the festival as the temperature was around zero degrees and windy, and today I was strolling through Helsinki in my spring jacket as we had almost 10 degrees and sun in the city.

Koska olen kuudennella kuulla raskaana, en tänä vuonna osallistunut festivaalin ihan kaikkiin osiin, mutta halusin ehdottomasti osallistua itse katuruokafestivaaliin, jota pidetiin 19.3. Helsingin Torikortteleissa.

Jeffrey's (Stockholm, Sweden)
Jeffrey's cuisine is a mix of New York style and traditional Latin American street food dishes. Spicy and modern. The most popular dish is churrasco, which includes Black Angus beef, bacon, guacamole, tomatoes, lettuce, aioli and homemade bread.
I tried churrascos : Black Angus beef in chimichurri, homemade bread, aioli, guacamole - delicious!

Jeffrey's (Tukholma, Ruotsi)
Latinalaisamerikkalainen katuruoka on nyt hitti Tukholmassa. Jeffrey’sin keittiö on sekoitus New York -tyyliä ja latinalaisamerikkalaisia katuruoka-annoksia.

Seafood enthusiast and fisherman Magnus Ekström brings his knowledge to our plates in the shape of smoked shrimp, salad & tasty aioli.
I tried Smoked shrimps, salad & aioli - heaven!

På Kroken (Hanko)
Hankolaiseen På Krokeniin on kirjaimellisesti helppo jäädä koukkuun. Ravintolan taustalta löytyy pitkänlinjan ammattikalastaja, jonka tavoitteena on aina tarjoilla mahdollisimman tuoretta kalaa ja äyriäisiä. Uutuutena kotimaiseen katuruokatarjontaan kalastaja Magnus Ekström tuo hitaasti aidolla leppäsavulla savustettuja katkarapuja aiolin kera.
Kokeilin kojun savustettuja katkarapuja - taivaallisen hyviä!

Cone's (Helsinki, Finland)
How does Japanese street food sound to you? Cone's gives you a taste of Tokyos favourite sweet and savory crepe cones. These crepes will definitely make your mouth water.
I tried a nutella & banana cone - one of the best desserts in town!

Cone's (Helsinki)

How do you feel about street food? What's your favorite kind? Do you enjoy eating out on the go?

Mitä mieltä olet katuruoasta? Minkälaista ruokaa syötä mieluiten ruokakojusta? Tykkäätkö rennosta katuruokatrendistä?

What's your opinion?

  1. I have to say I don't eat while walking. it's not good for the health I have heard. and it's just not my thing anyway. but gosh why did I have to see that burger right now? :D I would give so much to actually have it in front of me right now, haha. that delicious cone as well, yum! oh and how cool that someone from Estonia took part as well! another great post, Elisabeth!
