Hot air balloon flight 2/2

Helsinki, 18 degrees

Come with me to touch the sky.

As the balloon went up in the air, we first saw the panorama of the city, and the silhouette. Before we knew it, we were up in 700 meters height and I was amazed over what I saw! Helsinki is a beautiful city, as I have told you many times before, I know, but being this close to its buildings and parks, but still being in the air - it was priceless! It felt like I could almost touch the buildings, but I was still enjoying the still air. There was no wind up in the air. Only silence and beauty, and my excitement!

Recognizing buildings, islands, parks and places as we saw them from above - that was one of the fun games we played up in the air as we soared above Helsinki. Each building was familiar but looked like a LEGO block from the sky! People were small as ants, and the tram looked like a worm, haha. Life at the ground looked so busy, but time literally stopped as we were in the balloon. The hour we spent above Helsinki will forever stay in my memory as it was so special! Apparently one only needs 700 meters of distance to see life from a completely different perspective!

We had the best of luck when it came to the weather! We met up about three hours prior to the sunset, and once we were up in the air, we got to enjoy it in its full glory! Helsinki, surrounded by the sea on three sides, offered stunning views - the sea glistened in the sun making it look like pure gold! We saw tons of beautiful sailing ships, ferries, and boats around the coast and shoreline. Helsinki's landmarks looked prettier than ever - the White Cathedral and the other churches, market squares and halls, Solo Sokos Hotel Torni and so on. Seeing it from above, I could really understand that Helsinki's central park is bigger than the one of New York - it looked huge! In general, Helsinki looked amazingly verdant! At some point, I wished that the flight would never end, as it felt so peaceful and air light! I squeezed my boyfriend and couldn't have felt happier. That evening we had Helsinki for ourselves, it felt, as there were no other hot air balloons up just that night.

Meillä oli hurjan paljon onnea sään suhteen! Tapasimme Malmin lentoasemalla n. kolme tuntia ennen auringonlaskua, ja ilmassa saimme nauttia juuri siitä - mieleenpainuvasta auringonlaskusta! Merellinen Helsinki tarjosi loistavat puitteet - meri kimalsi auringossa jalokivien tavoin!

I hadn't been nervous of the flight itself, but the landing started to worry me when the organizer wasn't able to tell us straight away exactly where we would land. In the end, the balloon took us to Helsinki's neighboring city on the West named Espoo, and we started to descend in a residential area called Mankkaa. It was fun to look into people's court- and backyards. Everybody waved to us when they saw us, and it seemed like the whole neighborhood was happy to see us! I saw a young girl who started to excitedly run in order to follow our landing. She managed to follow us for 1km or so before we actually landed on a field close by. She stayed and watched as we landed and took out the air from the balloon. The organizer was skillful - the landing was extremely smooth and there was nothing scary about it as the basket didn't even fall when we touched the ground. In all, the experience was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G and I wouldn't change one bit of it. We ended the evening with a glass of bubbly and got certificates that showcased our adventure. On the way back in the minivan to Malmi airport, we all sat quietly reflecting on the mind-blowing flight we just had experienced.

Matkalla takaisin Malmin lentoasemalle, istuimme kaikki 13 minibussissa hiirenhiljaa koska mietimme kaikki juuri kokemamme huikeeta lentoa.

What city would you like to see from a hot air balloon? With who would you like to take the flight?

Minkä kaupungin sinä haluaisit nähdä ilmasta? Kenen kanssa haluaisit kokea kuumailmapallolennon?
