Easter 2015

Yellow is a very favorable vibration for mental or intellectual activity, as it promotes a clear state of mind. Yellow heightens your awareness and alleviates depression, sadness, or any kind of despondency.

Since I really like Easter as it represents for me personally the long-awaited arrival of spring, I thought I would dedicate this blog post to telling you something about what Easter means to me. Finnish Easter traditions showcase Finland's unique location between East and West and mix religious references both from Russia and the Nordics. If you answer the door on the two Sundays before Easter, you may be confronted by lovely little Easter witches or bunnies offering to bless your home in return for treats. This custom mixes two older traditions – the Russian Orthodox ritual, where birch twigs originally represented the palms laid down when Jesus entered Jerusalem on Palm Sunday; and the Swedish and Western Finnish tradition, where children made fun of earlier fears that evil witches could be about on Easter. Read more about Finnish Easter traditions here. I used to do this as well as a child; dress up as a witch on Easter. Nowadays, I merely throw on my yellow blazer at work. See it here if you missed it.

Happy Easter! How do you celebrate it?

Hyvää pääsiäistä! Miten itse juhlit pääsiäistä?

What's your opinion?

  1. Thank you for sharing this! It is so interesting to learn more about your own traditions. Easter is one of my favourite holidays as well. The beginning of spring - and so much positivity. I hope you have a great celebration :)

  3. happy Easter to you too, Elisabeth! gosh, I didn't even know about such traditions since we don't have them here in Estonia. here people (especially children) colour some eggs, maybe have a fancier dinner and stuff like that. I myself coloured eggs when I was a little kid. maybe we will do it this year, we'll see. it would be the first time as an adult (at least I think so). oh and I love the last photo. so beautiful!
