Business trip: Oslo, Norway 3/3

Helsinki, 2 degrees

There is no love sincerer than the love of food.

And so it's sadly time for my last blog post about my business trip to Oslo, Norway. You'll find my earlier blog posts about the trip here and here. In this blog post, I want to focus on introducing some of the spots I visited and show you some of the amazing food I enjoyed in Oslo, as food was the theme of the trip actually.

On tullut aika kiteyttää matkani Osloon, ja kirjoittaa viimeinen blogikirjoitus työmatkasta. Löydät aikaisemmat blogikirjoitukseni Oslosta täältä ja täältä. Tässä blogikirjoituksessa haluan keskittyä joidenkin käyntikohteiden esittelemiseen, mutta haluan myös näyttää sinulle joitakin paikallisia ruokia koska olihan matkan teema oikeasti ruoka.

The first photos are from Oslo's Market Hall, Mathallen, where I enjoyed delicious fish and chips and my friend enjoyed some salmon soup. Note the lamp made out of dried fish, impressing! The market hall was very new and as I visited it around 2pm, it was very quite so ideal for a late lunch!

The evening photos with the beautiful sunset are from the peninsula named Tjuvholmen. The buildings there are drawn by a stunning 20 different architects, creating a concentrated display of current trends in Norwegian architecture. It was just lovely! I loved the seaside promenade with tons of restaurants! Tjuvholmen is also known for its outdoor spaces, including several outdoor artworks. Very romantic, if you ask me. And even though it was close to the Oslo fjord, one could even swim in the sea there! One of Tjuvholmen's and Oslo's new main attractions is the master architect Renzo Piano’s Astrup Fearnley Museum, which you can see in the photo with the purple sky.

The mouthwatering photos are from the actual Nordic food workshop that I participated in during my stay in Norway. Beautiful cheeses, pulled whale (first time for me!), berry juice, moose meat, salmon, lingonberries, pastries, cold cuts of different meats, sausages, salad - you name it! It was a wonderful selection of the best that Norway has to offer, and I warmly recommend all of it!

Lastly, some last photos from Oslo: the main shopping street Karl Johans Gate, Norwegian National Opera & Ballet and the view from my hotel Radisson Blu Plaza over the city. Next time I have to have enough time to visit the local Viking Museum as I was raised to hear lots of Viking stories from my father.

Viimeisenä halusin näyttää joitakin kuvia Oslon keskustasta: pääostoskatu Karl Johans Gate, Oopperatalo ja näkymä Radisson Blu Plaza -hotellistani. Ensi kerralla minun on päästävä Viikinkimuseoon!

Keywords of the trip: mountains & wind currents (I could feel those while flying in as there was quite a lot of turbulence over the city due to the surrounding mountains, something we never experience in Finland), fjords, friendly people, modern architecture, prosperity, Vikings, and fish and other wonderful foods.

Matkan avainsanat: vuoret & vuoristotuuli (huomasin menomatkalla että vuoristotuuli aiheutti turbulenssiä lentomatkan aikana), vuonot, ystävälliset ihmiset, moderni arkkitehtuuri, vauraus, viikingit, kalat ja muu herkullinen paikallinen ruoka.

Do you notice how Oslo differs from the other Nordic capitals? Do you see our similarities / differences?

Huomaatko miten Oslo eroaa muista pohjoismaalaisista pääkaupungeista? Huomaatko, miten paljon meillä on yhteistä?
