Sagalaga

Helsinki, 2 degrees

Every girl pretends she is a princess at one point, no matter how little her life is like that.

Commercial collaboration: Sagalaga / Kaupallinen yhteistyö: Sagalaga

In a week the Christmas street of Helsinki will be lit with thousands of lights as it celebrates its Christmas opening! That means that it's time to start to think about Christmas for real! I kick-started the Christmas season by getting to know a Finnish design label that offered great Christmas inspiration! Home textiles and Christmas cards are some of my favorite items!

Viikon päästä joulukatu jo avataan, joten on tullut korkea aika valmistautua joulua varten. Käynnistin joulukauden vierailemalla kotimaisen designyrityksen liikkeessä, josta sain huimasti jouluinspiraatiota! Kodin tekstiilit ja joulukortit kuuluvat nimittäin suosikkeihini!

Sagalaga is graphic designer Satu Enstedt's personal project that represents Finnish design at its best: the label offers functional and natural home decor and paper products. The label gets its inspiration from Finnish nature (among others Northern lights, animals, and berries) and Satu's childhood favorite forms. Sagalaga stands for Satu's childhood nickname, Saga that is. The ending "laga" means doing in spoken Swedish. Satu has during her career as a graphic designer had the possibility to spend some years in Spain, from where the designs get their strong colors, depth, and vivacious surfaces. Sagalaga's kitchen towels (Revontuli, Marja and Kuusi) and Christmas cards are recommended by Santa Claus himself. Sagalaga's studio and shop can be found in Design District Helsinki, on Laivurinkatu 41. On December 5-7 Sagalaga arranges a Christmas pop up event, don't miss it! You can also find the label at Helsinki's most traditional Christmas Market, the St. Thomas Market.

Sagalaga on graafisen suunnittelijan Satu Enstedtin henkilökohtainen tuotos, joka edustaa suomalaista designia parhaimmillaan: merkki tarjoaa funktionaalisia ja luonnonläheisiä sisustus- ja paperituotteita. Merkki saa inspiraationsa suomalaisesta luonnosta (mm. eläimet, revontulet, marjat) ja Sadun lapsuuden rakkaista muodoista. Sagalagan nimen takana onkin Sadun lapsuudenajan kutsumanimi eli Saga. Joulukuussa (5.-7.12.) liike järjestää joulu-teemaisen pop up -tapahtuman, jolloin kannattaa tutustua pirteään kotimaismerkin tarjontaan! Sagalaga löytyy myös Tuomaan markkinoilta, kojusta numero 3.

My favorite Sagalaga character is actually a family: the fox family! With its vibrant colors and humorous details, I'm completely fascinated!

Suosikkihahmoni Sagalagan luomuksista on ehdottomasti kettuperhe! Ihan huikean hauska ja upeat värit!

Have you already started your Christmas preparations? In what way? What kind of design items do you look to give away this Christmas?

Joko olet aloittanut joulun valmistelut? Millä tavalla? Millaisia designtuotteita ajattelit antaa lahjaksi tänä jouluna?

What's your opinion?

  1. What wonderful designs! I really love the beautiful artwork. It gives the pieces a chic but whimsical touch. Thank you so much for sharing them! I am just beginning my Christmas preparations. This weekend I started to do a bit of decorating. There is plenty left to do but it is exciting to get started.

  3. we are only burning candles right now, the classic tealights and a scented one too. no other Christmas decorations yet. it's too early, in Estonia people usually start decorating when December arrives. not everybody but many for sure :) anyway, those foxes are awesome! I love all those inspirational photos. oh and cute muffins too!
