Street food festival Streat Helsinki

Helsinki, 7 degrees

The magic of the street is the mingling of the errand and the epiphany.

Food. What a wonderful thing. A great topic. A uniting and cross-cultural phenomenon. Everything surrounds it. It always stays in fashion. I've always loved food, but my appreciation for it started while I lived in Italy for two years. Inspired by the Italians, I learned to cherish the food of my dear hometown Helsinki. What makes the food scene so interesting in Helsinki, is that it's a mix of East and West - we have both Nordic and Russian gastronomic influences! As I mentioned in my previous blog post, I had the privilege to organize, on behalf of my work, a press trip for 10 international food writers during Helsinki's very first street food event called Streat Helsinki.

Ruoka. Mikä ihmeellinen asia. Ihana puheenaihe.

These 10 writers came from the United States, Hong Kong, Italy, France, UK, Sweden and Russia. I had planned a three-day-long program for these wonderful writers. The program included events related to Streat Helsinki (a get together, seminar, party and the actual street food festival that was a huge success with 20 000 food lovers in the city center of Helsinki), but also an interesting food sightseeing tour and a delicious dinner at one of Helsinki's Michelin starred restaurants Olo. It was a true pleasure hosting them and showing them around the city! All the knowledge they had about food was astonishing, I could merely admire it and hope that I will one day be as good as a storyteller as they are. Their personalities were also inspiring! I'll carry with me for life the amazing things that they taught me about life, food and people. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for going the trip, believe me when I say - you have a foodie friend for life in me!

I was lucky enough to have as my co-host lovely Hanna from the Finnish food blog Hannan Soppa. She represents four P's I look up to the most in life: personality, people person and passion! Let me take you back with me to last week's incredible food experiences through my Instagram photos and Hanna's beautiful systems camera photos!

  4. my experiences with street food are very minimal, even very very. obviously we don't have anything like that near my hometown and I have probably tried something only during trips to foreign countries. if I have at all, I'm not even sure. but those food photos here look oh so delicious! right now I would grab that hot dog like thingie! ;)
