Flowers & handmade silver jewelry

Helsinki, 4 degrees

A woman has to live her life, or live to repent not having lived it.

First of all, I want to thank you for all of your wonderful birthday wishes that I have received this week! This 28-year-old is very grateful for all the support you've given me! Yet another year older, but hopefully also wiser. I hope you feel that also my blog has taken a step forward during the last year. I'm proud of the direction and the steps I've taken to improve the content of this blog. However, you are always welcome to give me hints and tips about what you would like to read about.

Aivan aluksi haluan kiittää teitä lukijoita niistä kaikista syntymäpäiväonnitteluista, jotka olen teiltä saanut tämän viikon aikana! Tämä 28-vuotias on todella kiitollinen teidän tuesta! Taas hiukan vanhempi, mutta toivottavasti myös viisaampi.

Some of you readers were asking about my birthday splendor: how I celebrated it and so on and I thought I would give you a little sneak peek into it in this blog post. More blog posts about it might come later on. As it's a tradition in my family to celebrate each family member's birthday with song, I started my celebrations at my mom's place last weekend, and was greeted with song, glorious food, gifts and the company of my wonderful family. I celebrated my actual birthday with my boyfriend, the one's of you who follow me on Instagram already saw some of it. The celebration with dear friends has already started but will continue still next week so I'll fill you in on those later on.

One of the best birthday presents has by far been this week's weather. I'm childfully superstitious in some things, and birthday weather is one thing I take seriously. When I mentioned in my earlier blog post that I think March should stand for the first month of spring, well, I haven't been wrong so far - this week has been beautifully sunny here up in the North, in Helsinki! The light we've received in our home sure has lifted my spirit! It's been beautiful to watch how my birthday flowers have had different shades in different light settings during this week.

Yksi parhaimmista syntymäpäivälahjoistani on ehdottomasti ollut tämän viikon sää. Olen lapsellisen taikauskoinen, ja hyvä sää syntymäpäivänäni on minulle tärkeä asia. Valo on ihmeellinen energialähde!

Another lovely surprise this week has been the two beautiful silver bracelets I received from Finnish Ideakoru. Ideakoru's story began in 2004, inspired by the words by Finnish sculptor Emil Cedercreutz: Memento vivere - remember to live! Finnish sculptor Emil Cedercreutz (1879-1949) nailed these words of Goethe on his front door in Harjavalta, Finland to remind us about the value of life. Life is not vain, and it should not be wasted. Ideakoru's pieces of jewellery are very simple, just letters beaten into silver - pure and simple. Maarit Naakka, the designer behind Ideakoru, has tried to show the beauty in small things and illustrate the fact that humans are intrinsically connected to nature. "Every moment counts, memento vivere!"

Toinen ihana piristys tällä viikolla on ollut Ideakorulta saamani kaksi hopeista rannekorua. Ideakorun tarina alkoi melkein sattumalta.

I could choose the jewelry I wanted from Ideakoru and I chose two beautiful bracelets! One bears the text Memento vivere on it, the other one is a chic bracelet with a lock. According to me these two pieces cheer me up and remind me to live to the fullest. As you know, I get energy from my jewelry. When I'm nervous, I tend to touch e.g. my bracelets because they comfort me.

What kind of silver jewelry do you like?

Millaisista hopeakoruista te tykkäätte?

I also wanted to wish all my female readers Happy International Women's Day!

Samalla halusin toivottaa kaikille naislukijoilleni Hyvää naistenpäivää!

  6. I'm really really late, but I would like to send you my best birthday greetings, as well as a happy International Women's Day! The quote from Lady Chatterley's Lover you chose as the title for the post is more than appropriate.
This week has indeed been filled with a lot of light and flowers here as well, and that can totally make a big difference in how we live things.

I like the simple but 'meaningful' design (the quintessence of Finnish design indeed!) of your new bracelets. I also like the sparkling shirt you're wearing, I'm still looking for something similar that may fit with me :)

Have a good start of the week!

  7. oh I like those bracelets very very much! they're pretty much perfect :) and go so well with your light glittery sweater. when it comes to silver jewellery overall then I like everything silver - earrings, necklaces, bracelets... though daily I wear only my engagement ring (white gold) and a silver bracelet with a tiny pink heart (again from my fiance). oh and at least one pair of silver earrings too!
by the way, your birthday flowers are beautiful! very springlike and happy.
