MATKA Nordic Travel Fair

Helsinki, -14 degrees

I love people who make me laugh. I honestly think it's the thing I like most, to laugh. It cures a multitude of ills. It's probably the most important thing in a person.

Many of you readers might be wondering what I was doing last week when my blog was a little bit quieter. Helsinki hosted the biggest annual travel event, the MATKA Nordic Travel Fair, and that meant organizing a major press trip called Nordic Bloggers' Experience to my lovely city! This trip was the all-time biggest international blog trip to Finland so it was very exciting to be a part of the host team. In total 40 international bloggers visited Helsinki last week.

Laughter, joy, lifelong memories. The people I met and the experiences I had were amazing! I'll cherish the moments we shared together for a very long time. The program included among other things seminars, a visit to the Arabia center, a sauna evening, a cocktail event, a visit to the culture factory Korjaamo and a food tour! I lead the food tour, which was very exciting!

Thanks to this blog trip, this year's MATKA and my work duties during it differed quite a lot from earlier years. You can read about last year's MATKA Nordic Travel Fair in this blog post. I think it's a great idea that Helsinki no longer has a stand at the fair, but a café instead. As the host city to all the fairs taking place at Messukeskus, Helsinki should always be present. The café offers our brochure material throughout the year.

Kiitos tämän blogimatkan, Matkamessut tarjosivat minulle aivan uusia ulottuvuuksia ja työtehtäviä tänä vuonna. Viime vuoden messuista voitte lukea tästä blogikirjoituksesta (englanniksi). Mielestäni on hyvä idea, että Helsingillä on kahvila messuilla perinteisen messuosaston sijaan. Koska Helsinki on isäntäkaupunki kaikilla messuilla, kaupungin tulee olla jokaisessa messutapahtumassa läsnä. Kahvilasta löytyy mm. meidän esitemateriaalia.

How often do you visit fairs / conventions in your town? Do you ever travel abroad for them?

Miten usein käyt messuilla? Matkusteletko messutapahtumien perässä?

What's your opinion?

  4. oh, as I've said before my hometown is really tiny so we have no such events here. and when I say "no" I really mean "pure zero". but of course I visit fairs and other similar events in bigger towns.. Estonian towns, not the foreign ones so far. and the one you were talking about sounds like a very interesting and versatile event. no wonder you enjoyed it so much :) haha and when I see this cafe I feel very strong hunger :P
