Business trip: Levi, Finnish Lapland

Helsinki, 16 degrees

The northern edge of the world - the land full of extremes.

The reason behind my silence this week has been a magical business trip to Lapland, the North of Finland! During two days, I got a sneak peek of the wonderful Lappish charm, which is quite exotic for an urban girl like me. The combination of breathtaking views and nature and the warmhearted people left an impressive impression on me. Have a look at this no ordinary destination!

I must admit that I felt privileged when I got to visit Levi in Northen Finland during the period of autumn colors (ruska as we Finns call it). Despite the fact that Lapland has lots of evergreen trees, I could still see the stunning yellow leaves in many trees. It almost seemed like the trees were on fire! Lapland also has beautiful earth ruska, which makes even small weeds change colors.

Levi is known as a winter destination thanks to its fells, but even during summertime and autumn the place is ideal for lots of activities like hiking, visiting reindeers in the wild or going for husky rides. Being one of Finland's largest ski resorts in Finland, Levi has 43 ski slopes. The destination consists of a ski village with a lot of services, e.g. souvenir shops, restaurants, cafés and bars.

On the first day that we spent in Levi we got to go up with a gondola to the top of the Levi fell. The view from the fell was fairy-tale like! Don't you think? The photos look like paintings, but they are real! I just couldn't believe my eyes!

The reason why I went on a business trip to Levi was that we had our annual tourism meeting there. Tourist Offices from all around Finland met up at Levi, and we had 1½ days of seminars there. Besides the amazing views, we also got to enjoy some of the local culinary treats - with reindeer as the leading star of course!

I'll fill you in on the seminar contents later on because some of them were really inspiring. The greatest source of inspiration in Lapland is nevertheless the nature.

With these images and thoughts in my mind, I feel charged for the fall to come! I'm so proud to be working with promoting this beautiful country! Have you ever visited Lapland? Have you heard about this magical soil?

What's your opinion?

  4. to be honest I'm not sure if I have or haven't visited Lapland. maybe I did it during winter, if at all... it doesn't even matter actually because after seeing all those absolutely wonderful nature shots I definitely want to go there someday when I can. and I totally understand how it gave you energy and inspiration. nature sure is powerful! :) oh and it actually reminds me of Norway a bit, another country I kind of miss... its little villages, mountains, crazy narrow roads, oh actually pretty much everything! :) have you been to Norway?

  5. Thanks for this report and for the pictures from magical Lappi! Even if it's quite known as a Winter destination, I think as well that it has a wonderful atmosphere even in Autumn. I also think that people from there bring the same magic of the place also in their personality. It's quite hard to explain, but I'm sure you know what I mean : )

    Take care!
