Tall Ships' Races Helsinki 2013

Helsinki, 18 degrees

The past is like an anchor holding us back. You have to let go of who you are to become who you will be.

I still plan to write one blog post about my summer holiday to Sicily, Italy, and my visit to the volcano Etna but I just must take a break to blog about the ongoing event taking place right now in Helsinki! It's that amazing! As a true Sex and the City fan I know all the episodes of this particular TV show by heart. That's why I caught myself smiling yesterday when I experienced such a SATC moment. Why? Have a look at this blog post and find out!

One of the best moments in life is when it feels like you're walking in a movie/ TV show. I experienced one of those moments yesterday when I headed to the Tall Ships' Races Helsinki 2013! This is now the fourth time for Helsinki, with as many as 13 years having passed since the Tall Ships last sailed into the harbor. Right now we have a total of 114 stunning ships in the city! For a boat lover like me, the ships are like eye candy!

Have you already figured out which episode of SATC I had in mind? Well of course Anchors Away! If you haven't seen it, here's a short video clip from it to refresh your memory!

Why did I think of this episode? Thanks to the sailors, duh! Haha!

There are some legendary quotes from that episode like these:
Samantha: Ladies, seamen, 12:00.
Miranda: I pray, when I turn around, there are sailors. Because with her, you never know.
Carrie: Wow! We have just spotted our first sailors. Fleet Week has begun.
Carrie: Fleet Week is that one week a year when the U.S. Naval ships dock and our fair city is made even fairer, with cute, sweet American sailors looking for fun.
Samantha: I've been so distracted by Richard that I almost forgot my favorite holiday.
Charlotte: Fleet Week isn't a holiday.

Samantha: It should be.

I'm so proud of my city for organizing this international event! I wish we could host similar boating events every year! Helsinki with its beautiful harbor areas is made for maritime events like this!

Have you ever been to any of the Tall Ship Races? How do you feel about maritime events like this?

What's your opinion?

  1. Aw, these pictures are so beautiful! I always love looking at the harbourfront.

  2. well, we had those so called sea days in Tallinn last weekend. a colleague of mine went there but I and my fiance had other plans. so I don't know much about the event. your event reminds me of our trip to Helsinki and I miss that time spent there. today my travel agent asked about our autumn beach vacation and I told her we will probably not go. gosh it was hard to say that :P
anyway, when it comes SATC I honestly don't like it very much. it's just not my cup of tea though I know so many people love it to pieces.

    1. Yeah I saw advertisement for Tallinn's Sea Days here in Helsinki, but I must say that the Tall Ships Races were such a big and international event that it blew my mind!
How come you don't like SATC?
