Balcony

Helsinki, 15 degrees

Something about glamour interested me. All my schoolbooks had drawings of women on terraces with a cocktail. Beautiful terraces where you can sit and dream.

Last Wednesday I got a real surprise when I came home after a long work day. My boyfriend had surprised me with taking the first steps towards decorating our balcony! Ever since we moved into our new home last October, we have left the balcony to "our spring project". However, because of lack of time, we still hadn't done anything do it. Nevertheless, we had several times discussed our common dreams and ideas for the balcony. We both want to create a cozy balcony with a table and a sofa corner, as well as at least one terrace chair. It's quite spacious for an urban balcony, about 2m x 3,5m. Do you want to see how it looks right now?

These are some of the inspirational photos I've found on Pinterest while searching for white balcony interior settings. We both knew that we were looking for some light colors and a spacious feel to it all. Since our balcony is glazed, we can enjoy it actually all year round if we add textiles, like blankets and pillows to it.

We both wanted our balcony to become a kind of lounge space, where we can relax during our free time. I thought the perfect music to set you into the right atmosphere so that you can feel me, would be Café Del Mar's Chillout music. Do you like it?

Now, with the right music, try to imagine an urban balcony, with a twist of white lounge luxury like you can see here.

...and so, this was the surprise I came home to!Isn't it amazing!? I think it's a wonderful start!

We still have to add textiles, I want a lot of pillows, maybe striped ones. And blankets! I also want lots of plants, candles and maybe rocks at the borders of the floor panels.

What do you think? What makes an excellent balcony in your opinion?

What's your opinion?

  1. I love any balcony, though the only one I was ever on was a very small one at a hotel near the beach many years ago.

  6. well, actually I'm not the right person to answer this since I haven't decorated/designed a balcony yet :P we do have one, yes, and we will probably add a couple of chairs there, and flowers but that's probably all. our garden is big enough to relax there and we have a barbecue house too, built in 2011.
by the way, is your balcony totally closed or you can open it somehow to sunbath for example? I often use my balcony for sunbathing since it's always one of the hottest places. oh and I think the white furniture is beautiful and it suits with your home :)

    1. Please make sure to show off your balcony once it's ready.
It would be nice to see photos of your garden and barbeque house.
Our balcony is glazed, but one can open parts of it. I've already been sunbathing on it :)
