27th birthday

Helsinki, -3 degrees

Evolution is not a force but a process. Not a cause but a law. Promise yourself to live your life as a revolution and not just a process of evolution.

My 27th birthday. Minus degrees. Snow. Having a sore throat and flu. This can only be mended with a blog post showcasing my evolution. This blog post is dedicated to spreading some light to who I am through who I've been. Here's a series of snapshots of the young me.

By now you have seen my sister, who is four years older than me, in the photos of her wedding (if not, you'll find them here), and I think this photo is the best one to kick off this photo post since it describes so well our unique bond.

Here my mother has pictured us - me a thoughtful toddler in my sister's protecting and loving arms.

Even though I think of myself as a city girl nowadays, I spent most of my childhood summers at our summer cottage close to Turku, some two hours from Helsinki. It's fun to compare these photos to the ones I took last year when I visited the place, see them in my blog post here.

This photo was taken on my grandmother's front yard, with my beloved father who I'm still mourning. This is where my hate for socks, hehe, got started, since I used to run barefoot both at our summer cottage and my grandmother's place, but was asked to put on socks and shoes for photos.

My childhood was filled with a lot of games and play - almost always alongside my sister.

Nevertheless, my mother also joined in as much as she could. I was a fortunate child to have had such an active mother in my life.

Here's a photo of my grandparents (from my mother's side) giving me and my sister a sleigh ride.

This is one of my favorite childhood photos. My mother wanted us to feel a connection to the "farm life" she had grew up to (in contrast to the urban upbringing me and my sister had) so we rented two sheep that we took care of for one summer. My girly personality shined through; I cared for my sheep, the black one, called Dumbo in a ballerina dress - not something people were used to seeing in the countryside.

I hope these photos have given you an insight into my childhood and maybe showed you a new side to me.

However, our childhoods are strongly connected to our present selves, don't you think? Well, that's is at least what this 27-year-old thinks.

  1. happy birthday, dear Elisabeth, and get well soon! I hope you're enjoying your special day in spite of everything.
what a sweet post that was btw. I just love seeing other bloggers' childhood photos to compare them with my own childhood (as much as I can remember about it). your photos brought back memories about time spent in Finland, on a small island where we sailed from Kotka I think.. it was a long time ago but I still remember I loved it a lot and am kind of missing all that now.. I used to spend a lot of time in Finland since my father worked/lived there when I was a little girl.

    Lämpöiset syntymäpäiväonnittelut ja halaus. ♥
(Huij, ensi keskiviikkona minun vuoro ja 26! :)
