Restaurant Day in November 2012

Helsinki, 5 degrees

One of the very nicest things about life is the way we must regularly stop whatever it is we are doing and devote our attention to eating.

Yesterday we celebrated in my opinion Helsinki's best festival - the Restaurant Day, which is organized four times a year! You can read about the least one in May here.

This time I headed with one of my friends to the newly opened Abattoir where a stunning 16 restaurants had open just for this specific day! We started the day by trying restaurant Tibet tent's Tibetan butter tea, which I have been wanting to try for a long time now! As you can read in my earlier post here, there is a special place in my heart for Tibet. I must say that the butter tea first tasted like a soup but once I got used to the taste, I thought it was delicious!

We also had some yummy mushroom risotto from surprise, surprise an Italian stand called Italian Cooking Team! The blue and white tents all hosted incredible restaurants so it was difficult to choose which ones to try!

We finished by having some Russian syrniki, fried quark pancakes that is, from restaurant 3 Mishki. I thought it was fun that the owners were dressed to the occasion!

We spent the afternoon at Helsinki Design District's market and I picked up a necklace there that I'll show you in a post next week! Have you experienced the Restaurant Day already? How was your weekend?

What's your opinion?

  1. I knew nothing about that day but now I know and I think it's pretty awesome! trying out new dishes from different countries sounds great since I think there is so much to discover. new ingredients, recipes, good ideas which you can use in your own kitchen. I can totally see why you loved it!
