Autumn flowers

Helsinki, 13 degrees

Deep in the sun-searched growths the dragonfly, hangs like a blue thread loosened from the sky.

This first of October has meant waiting, worrying, cleaning and shopping for me. Yes, you read correctly. This because today my boyfriend went through a shoulder operation today. I had worked in a day off to be able to help him as much as possible on this operation day. The operation nevertheless took about five hours (!!) so in the meantime I went to our old apartment and cleaned it for the last time. It's incredible how much there was to clean even when the apartment was empty - or maybe I just get fussy when I think about the fact that I hand over the keys (of the apartment) to the apartment owner this Friday.

Today I also managed to pass by Lindex and pick up my very own piece of clothing from the awaited Missoni collection. I'll show you my finding in a future post.

My October will include lots of home interior decoration, parties and work wise of course meeting interesting new people, finalizing the brochure I've been working on and starting with new projects. How about yours?

In my last post I told you that gold has inspired me lately. Ironically, that doesn't mean that silver hasn't. Some time ago I found this stunning silver color dress at H&M and I must say that I can't get enough of it! I think autumnal flowers are the best! I've lately combined the dress with some interesting knot earrings I came across. Don't you just love knot earrings?

One of you readers recently asked me about how come I like dragonflies so much. I promised her an answer so I thought it would work as a great finish to this blog post. Explaining why dragonflies are my power animals (even though it's an insect I know) kind of explains who I am at the same time. As many of you readers know, my all time favorite TV show is Sex and the City, as probably for many. One episode in particular hit me hard when I saw it years ago. To clarify which episode I'm talking about, here's a video clip from it.

Remember it? if you haven't seen the whole episode, I highly recommend it since it's all just sooo good.

As you probably noticed, this clip includes the same quote that is visible in my blog header. When I saw this episode for the first time, I immediately had the thought of starting to plan a tattoo that would personificate this quote. I didn't want a horse tattoo, so I started to look for something else that would have the same wild character. On a summery day it hit me when I saw a dragonfly flying in front of me.

Dragonflies are beautiful ancient creatures, some cultures even find them magical, but like wild horses, they are not supposed to be tamed or caught. I've heard that dragonflies die if they are put in jars. I don't know if that is true, but I do think that they are the most beautiful when they fly in the wild and when they fly in couples. So as far-fetched as it might sound, the dragonfly is my personal symbol since I've always thought of myself as somebody like the quote says "that need to run free 'til they find someone just as wild to run with them". I'm so lucky to have finally found that other wild one! And for those who didn't know and wonder, yes, I do have a dragonfly tattoo ever since.

So now you've heard the story and you can judge me by it, hehe. Hope your week has started off well and that you have a great month of October!

What's your opinion?

  1. I loved that story! and how surprising that everything started with SATC (which is not my favourite and I don't like Carrie very much but that's not important here). I also have a story behind all of my tattoos and all of them hide so many memories, good and bad. I love having them all.
oh and I wanted to say how much I love the floral dress. it's gorgeous and so are the earrings. I started thinking if I own a pair but I'm afraid I don't.. btw, I answered your question about dark mint under my last blog post.
ps. you made me curious about that Missoni collection!

  4. Hi Elizabeth, so sorry to hear that your BF had an operation, hope that he is feeling better and had recovered well. Love the pretty print on your dress, you look lovely! Thanks for sharing this story about the dragonflies, I didn't know much about why they are so special, but now I do! P.S thanks for your comment, I think the hair-how-to pictures you do are really great. Also, here in SA, some ladies use a normal scarf to tie a turban.

    1. He is slowly feeling better but it will take about six weeks for him to get in shape again. Happy you liked the story! :)
I wish I could make a turban out of a normal scarf...
